Three Secrets To Fabric Selection
Author: admin
There’s so much variety available in fabric shops, on-line, and in mail-order catalogues that it is almost hard to select. Regularly I finish up purchasing fabric whether I need it right now or not. In fact, a quilter must always have fabric available. The’magic’ comes when you find a fabric that you fall madly in love with. Finding an acceptable fabric usually isn’t troublesome for a project you are working on. These are some factors to remember when making fabric selections : colorfast quality, fiber content, surface design. If you stick to some laws about these standards, then you are sure to be happy with the final result of your project. Surface Design : The printed or woven surface design and, naturally, the color, is important. Two ) Check to work out if there’s an one-way direction in the design, you could need to buy additional fabric to make allowance for cutting fabrics with plaids or stripes. Three ) the dimensions of the design and the background spaces are also major points. Are the designs massive, medium, or small? Is the background area prominent? How will this particular fabric look when cut it into little duvet pieces? If the design is too widely spaced, it could be lost in the cutting of the fabric.
Take a little while to research fabric and keep these questions in mind when purchasing fabric. It is much better to have left over fabric than be working on a project and run out of material. I have run out before to find the fabric isn’t in stock. Colorfast Quality : Avoid fabrics that fade.
Wet-printed resists light twenty hours. The smartest thing to avoid having your duvet fade is to keep it out of direct daylight.
The way fabric replies to manipulation is decided by the fiber content.
Cotton mixes are harder to work with, they have a tendency to shift while cutting or stitching them. Be careful of Discount Fabric : For a good finished product, quilters need to buy good-quality, colorfast cotton fabric from a reputable provider. I have purchased fabric from bargain stores because I liked the print. Then I had difficulty manipulating the material, it might shift and bunch as I stitched it. The completed product sometimes reflected the issues I encountered while stitching. To be pleased with your finished product, I like to recommend that you purchase what appeals to you so long as it is good-quality, colorfast cotton fabric that’s treated with finishes to manipulate shrinkage, resist soil, and resist wrinkling.
